Copying Beethoven
A fictionalized account of Beethoven's life while he worked on the Ninth Symphony in his final days. Currently, it's 1824. Beethoven is rushing to complete his next symphony. However, he has been afflicted by deafness, loneliness, and emotional tragedy since his last accomplishment. The composer is in desperate need of the assistance of a copyist. Anna Holtz, a young conservatory student and aspiring composer, is introduced as a fictional character. The erratic Beethoven initially doubts Anna's ability to help him with his masterpiece, but eventually grows to trust her and develop a fondness for her. His life will be incomplete without her by the time the piece is performed. In addition to correcting his blunders, she has such a thorough knowledge of his profession that she is able to gain access to his private life.
