Max Lowe is a Houston-based surgeon who has grown tired of the bureaucracy that has characterized American medicine. Having lost himself while operating on a patient, Max makes the rash decision to flee America and travel to India in the hopes of finding himself again. In Calcutta, Max is attacked and detained by thugs shortly after his arrival. He is left with no money and no passport.
