A band of robbers intends to enrich themselves by stealing a consignment of contraceptives from the Finisham maternity hospital. They disguise themselves and infiltrate the hospital, but nothing goes as planned. Sir Bernard Cutting, the hypochondriac consultant, Matron, and the doctors and nurses at Finisham all have a tendency to obstruct.
