George Adamson, an English game warden, and his wife, Joy, look after three orphaned lion cubs in a Kenyan national park. Elsa, the smallest of the three lions, remains with the couple after the two larger lions are shipped to a zoo in the Netherlands. When Elsa is blamed for causing an elephant stampede in a nearby village, head warden John Kendall orders that the young lion be trained to survive in the Serengeti or sent to a zoo.
