"Beyond the Blackboard" is based on a true tale of a 24-year-old first-time teacher who has a profound impact on the lives of the homeless children she teaches in a shelter's temporary classroom. It takes place in 1987 in Albuquerque, New Mexico and follows the story of a new teacher and mother who is assigned a difficult teaching assignment and ends up teaching homeless children in a school with no name.
