It's a natural friendship between a small boy and an extremely talented stray dog. Josh Framm,12, is adjusting to life without his father after the accident that claimed his life. When Josh moves into town for the first time, he has no friends and is too nervous to sign up for the school's basketball team. When he decides to practice alone, he finds a deserted court and makes friends with an abandoned golden retriever, Buddy. Upon learning that Buddy is a huge basketball fan, Josh is awestruck. Moreover, Buddy is a talented player. Once Buddy has been officially recognized as the official team mascot, Josh is able to join the team. It's Josh and Buddy's turn to take center stage during halftime. Media attention is drawn to Buddy's half-time ability. Norm Snively, Buddy's cruel previous owner, has a plan to cash in on the pup's notoriety, and it appears like they'll be separated.
