August of this year. Frank recognizes his own story from twenty years ago in a book that was recently published by a different author. She is remembered as Marie, with whom he had a romantic relationship prior to her relocation to the United States and subsequent disappearance from his life. The quest for her leads Frank to the United States, where he finds himself in the midst of a heat wave and a climate of distrust and political anxiety. In pursuit of Marie, he ventures out into the desert.
