Tim is a bit of a loner, to be honest. At school, he is drawn to another quiet youngster, with whom he eventually becomes friends. However, the verbal and physical abuse by a gang of adolescents, as well as the aggressive use of social media, causes Tim's new friend to become unsettled, and he withdraws from him - an act of cowardice that will have major ramifications for Tim. Because of Tim's reluctance to come forward, the bullies appear to be able to get away with their crimes, none more so than the gang's leader Jeff. He's one of the school's most talented athletes, and his 800m time of 1.54 minutes puts him in a strong position to compete at the national championships. When Tim chooses to begin training in order to face Jeff, even with the help of his girlfriend as cover, his adversaries appear eager to go to any extent to prevent him from succeeding.
